LICENSED CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Dr. Vicki Santos was licensed as a clinical psychologist in 1991. She earned a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Rosemead School of Psychology--BIOLA University in La Mirada, California, in August 1990. Prior to her doctorate, she earned a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from Rosemead. Her undergraduate work was completed at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. She is trained in psychodynamic, cognitive, and behavioral therapies. Dr. Santos’ coursework at Rosemead focused on the integration of psychology and theology, in addition to traditional training in clinical psychology. Her predoctoral internship year was spent in a consortium program at Terrell State Hospital in Terrell, Texas, and the University of Texas Health Science Center/Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. She trained on rotations in Psychiatric Emergency Room, Neuropsychology, Consultation & Liaison to Physicians, Child Psychiatry, Inpatient Substance Abuse, and Inpatient Chronic Mental Illness. Upon completion of her coursework, Dr. Santos had a minor in Theology and Biblical studies from Talbot School of Theology on the BIOLA campus, as well as her Masters and Doctorate degrees in clinical psychology. Following completion of her doctorate, Dr. Santos completed a 1-year residency with the practice of Goebel & Vigen, Psychologists. That residency was spent on a Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation unit at Shumpert Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. There she worked primarily with head injury and stroke patients and their families. Much of that work focused on continually assessing patients’ neuropsychological functioning, providing consultation to interdisciplinary treatment team members, assisting patients and their families with adjustment issues, and treating anxieties and depression. In spring of 1992, Dr. Santos joined the private practice of the Christian Psychological Center in Memphis, Tennessee. During her 8 years at the Christian Psychological Center, Dr. Santos provided psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults in both individual and group settings. She also performed psychological assessments and worked on an inpatient unit as a group therapist. She developed and conducted outpatient life skill groups focused on social skills and boundary setting, for both children and adults. During this time, Dr. Santos gained extensive experience working with borderline personality disorders, trauma recovery, and adjustment disorders. Speaking to numerous church and community groups on the issues of Divorce Recovery, Grief Recovery, and Recovery from Sexual Abuse were a regular part of Dr. Santos’ work. During her first couple of years in Memphis, Dr. Santos also worked as a Consulting Psychologist to graduate level psychology students at the University of Mississippi campus counseling center in Oxford, Mississippi, and taught as an adjunct psychology instructor at Crichton College. Currently, Dr. Santos specializes in psychological testing using both intellectual and personality measures to assist in determining proper diagnoses and treatment recommendations for children, adolescents, and adults. Assessment instruments include WISC-III, WAIS-III, Rorschach, TAT, MMPI-2, Beck Depression Inventory, various neuropsychological screening instruments, and more. Dr. Santos also provides Christian counseling and psychotherapy to children, adolescents, adults, and families with varied psychological problems including depression, anxiety, trauma, and life adjustments. Other issues include low self-esteem, assertiveness/boundaries, emotional concerns, relationship problems, grief & loss, and psychological conditions affected by medical factors.
