Kristine Kester, M.S., L.C.P.C.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Kristine was licensed as a Clincal Professional Counselor on June 14, 2005.  She earned her Registered Dual Disorder Professional (R.D.D.P.) certificate on January 22, 2008 from the IAODAPCA (Illinois Alcohol and other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association).  She earned her Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Benedictine University in June of 2001.

She has six years of extensive clinical experience in the mental health and addiction fields from Gateway Foundation in Aurora, Illinois.  Her work was focused on the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program (PSR), which educated and taught clients how to reintegrate back into the community.  As the Team Leader (Mental Health Clinician III) of the PSR program she was responsible for the day to day function of the program, individual therapy, skill based group therapy, and clinical supervision of staff and interns.  Kristine led variety of skill based groups, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, DBT, Seeking Safety, and Anger Management.  She provided immediate services to clients diagnosed with major mental illness (Major Depression, Bipolar I and II, Schizophrenia, PTSD, Anxiety, and Borderline Personality Disorder).  She has experience working with various addictions including alcohol, drug, food, and sex addictions.  Her experience includes providing mental health assessments, making differential diagnoses, and developing individualized treatment plans for individuals aged eighteen to sixty.  She specializes in DBT, which helps individual diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, as well as clients who need skills in managing and regulating their emotions, in interpersonal effectiveness, and in reducing distress.

Kristine completed two postmasters’ internship working with children and adolescents with various types of trauma.  She is trained in several evidenced-based treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Seeking Safety (for mood, anxiety, and substance abuse disorders).

Kristine's professional experiences includes counseling adults with various mental health and substance abuse diagnoses (Dual Diagnosis).  In addition, she provides psychotherapy to children, adolescents, adults, and families with varied psychological problems including depression, anxiety, and anger.
